Install TYO Reach on macOS
TYO Reach for Mac comes as a notarized DMG from the download page or as a Mac App Store app. Both give you the menu-bar gateway; only the DMG build can host Reach Sessions, so pick the DMG if you want to host terminals on your Mac.

If you're unsure, take the DMG: it's the full build, and it's notarized by Apple so Gatekeeper opens it without any override.
Install the DMG
- Download the DMG from the download page and open it.
- Drag TYO Reach into Applications.
- Launch it from Applications. Because the app is notarized, macOS opens it normally — no "unidentified developer" step.
Install from the Mac App Store
Search for TYO Reach in the App Store, install, and launch. Sign in with the same TYO account you use everywhere else; plans and team policy follow your account.
First run
TYO Reach lives in the menu bar, not the Dock.
- Click the Reach icon in the menu bar and choose Sign in to TYO Reach. Your browser opens to confirm — close the tab once it says you're signed in.
- Click the icon again and choose Enable All. The menu shows Proxy: ON and the gateway region you're routed through.
- Pick a different exit region at any time from the menu.
Reach configures the proxy for the browser you choose; everything else on the Mac stays on your normal connection. No kernel extension, no VPN profile, no admin password.
Sharing this Mac
The tray toggle reads Share this Mac. Turn it on to let a named teammate reach this Mac's screen from anywhere — it's exposed over macOS Screen Sharing (VNC), so a viewer on another Mac just opens Screen Sharing.
Reach Sessions on a Mac
- Attach to sessions hosted elsewhere from either build: menu bar → Remote Machines → the host → pick a session.
- Host sessions on this Mac with the DMG build only: menu bar → Host sessions on this PC. If tmux is installed, your existing tmux sessions are exposed. See Reach Sessions.
Common questions
Will Gatekeeper block the DMG?
No. The DMG build is notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other signed app. If you ever see an "unidentified developer" message, you've downloaded from somewhere other than reach.tyo.com.au/download.
Can I switch from the App Store build to the DMG later?
Yes. Install the DMG, sign in with the same account, and your plan and settings carry over. Remove the App Store copy afterwards to avoid two menu-bar icons.
Does Reach install a VPN profile on macOS?
No. On macOS, Reach uses the system proxy settings for the browser you choose. (The iPhone and iPad app is different — iOS requires a VPN profile.)
