TYO Reach vs Cisco Duo
Both products give your team MFA and a managed gateway. The differences come down to price, hosting location, and how much enterprise overhead you actually need.
Side by side
Reach covers the essentials most SMBs actually use. Duo goes deeper for enterprise compliance and device trust.

When to choose which
Choose Reach if…
Your team is under 50 people and you need a static exit IP, MFA, and central routing policy without paying enterprise prices or depending on US cloud infrastructure. Reach is also the only option if you want personal and team use on a single account.
Choose Duo if…
You need deep device trust (checking managed device health before granting access), SIEM log forwarding, Azure AD federation, or you're in a regulated industry that requires Duo's compliance certifications. Duo Premier is the benchmark for enterprise zero-trust.
On pricing: Duo Essentials starts at $3/user/month (MFA only). Duo Advantage ($6) adds risk-based auth. Duo Premier ($9) adds the Network Gateway — the VPN-replacement feature. Reach's team pricing covers the gateway, MFA, and policy dashboard in one flat per-seat rate.
Does Reach replace Duo entirely?
For most Australian SMBs, yes — Reach covers the core use case: MFA on every login, a static exit IP your SaaS firewall trusts, and routing policy you manage centrally. If you're in a regulated environment requiring device health checks, SIEM integration, or Azure AD federation, Duo's depth may still be warranted.
Is Reach's identity system as secure as Duo's?
Reach uses TYO ID — an Australian-hosted identity layer with TOTP MFA, Verified Push, and backup codes. It doesn't yet have Duo's biometric device trust or hardware token support. For standard SMB use, the security posture is comparable. For high-assurance environments, Duo has more options.
Can Reach work alongside Duo?
Yes. Some teams use Reach for internet gateway/egress control and keep Duo for application-level authentication where they've already deployed it. They're not mutually exclusive.
Where is Reach's data hosted?
TYO ID and the Reach control plane run on Google Cloud in the australia-southeast1 region (Sydney). Your traffic exits from whichever gateway region you select — currently AU, HK, SG and more being added. Duo is hosted on Cisco's US cloud infrastructure.
