Data limits and limited mode
Personal plans meter the data you route through Reach — Free 2 GB, Pro 50 GB, Business 200 GB a month. Team members are unmetered. When a personal plan reaches its cap the proxy stays on in limited mode: routed traffic stops and you're sent to a page to top up or upgrade, with no surprise charges.
What counts
Only bytes that actually go through the gateway. Anything sent direct — sites outside your rules, LAN traffic, apps you haven't routed — costs nothing. Usage shows in the tray (Monthly data: 1.2 GB / 2 GB (60%)) and on your dashboard; Managing your data covers allowances and resets in more detail.
The warning
As you approach the cap (around 90% used) the client shows a one-time approaching your data limit notification. Routing continues until the limit is actually reached.
Limited mode
When you're over the cap:
- The proxy stays switched on so nothing on your machine breaks and your browser settings don't change.
- Routed page loads show a data limit reached page that links to reach.tyo.com.au/limit.
- Reach's own sites and the Square payment pages stay reachable, so you can sign in and pay through the gateway itself — you don't have to switch Reach off to top up.
- Everything you were not routing is unaffected.
The tray shows a Data limit reached notification and adds an I've topped up — retry now item.
Getting going again
- Top up or upgrade from the limit page or your dashboard.
- Click I've topped up — retry now in the tray. The client re-checks your usage and, if you're back under the cap, lifts limited mode immediately.
If you don't click, the client re-checks on its own within about 15 minutes. The gateway caches each account's limit for a similar period, so a retry a few seconds after paying can briefly bounce back into limited mode — wait a moment and retry.
Resets, upgrades and teams
- Allowances reset on the 1st of each month and don't roll over.
- Upgrading applies straight away; limited mode clears at the next check or when you click retry.
- Joining a team group makes your account unmetered immediately and lifts any active cap; leaving one returns you to your personal plan's allowance.

Common questions
Does limited mode cut off my internet?
No. Only traffic you were routing through Reach is paused; direct traffic continues as normal. Switch the proxy off and even routed browsers go direct.
I paid but the retry still says I'm over the limit
The gateway caches limits for up to ~15 minutes. Wait a minute or two and click retry again; the client also re-checks automatically.
Do team members ever hit a cap?
No — the tray shows Unmetered (Corporate) and no limit applies.
