A site won't open through TYO Reach

Reach is switched on, but the page you wanted either won't load or still shows the "not available in your region" version.

What it means

Reach only routes what it's told to: the browsers you've enabled, the domains your rules send to the gateway, and only while the proxy is on. Nine times out of ten the site isn't going through Reach at all. The rest is the site caching an earlier answer, or a network that's interfering with the connection.

Fixes, in order

  1. Check the tray says Proxy: ON. Open the Reach menu — it should show Proxy: ON and a Gateway: line with a region. If it says OFF, click Enable All.
  2. Use a browser Reach is routing. On desktop, each browser has its own toggle in the tray; a browser that's switched off goes out on your normal connection. On Android, check the app is in Rules or Global mode, not Direct — see Proxy modes.
  3. Check your rules. In Rules mode only the domains you've added are routed. If the site isn't listed, add it — or switch to Global to route everything from that browser. See Domain rules.
  4. Hard-reload the page. Sites cache the region decision; press Ctrl+Shift+R (⌘⇧R on a Mac) or open a private window after switching Reach on.
  5. Try a different exit region. Some services treat one region differently from another. Pick a different gateway from the tray — Gateway regions.
  6. Switch connection mode. On hotel, campus or corporate Wi-Fi the default transport can be throttled. Tray → Connection modeDisguise, then Slow if that still stalls. See Connection modes.
  7. Look for an error page. If routed pages show TYO Reach gateway unavailable or data limit reached, that's a different problem — see connected but no internet or data limits.

Common questions

The site opens but the content is still region-locked

The site sees the gateway's IP, so it treats you as a visitor from that region — Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe or US-West. If it needs a specific country Reach doesn't exit from (Australia included), Reach can't unlock it.

It works in one browser but not another

Only browsers you've enabled are routed. On desktop, toggle the second browser on in the tray; Firefox uses its own proxy settings, covered in Use Reach with Firefox.

Everything stopped working at once

Check the tray for a Data limit reached notification and whether your plan is still active on the dashboard.
